Sadie Hawkins enjoyable night for all

Sadie Hawkins took place on November 22, 1992. The dance started at 8:00p.m. and continued on until 11:00p.m. There was a large group in attendance, but not as many people as Homecoming.

The music had a slight variety, consisting of all the typical music that is believed to be listened to by highschool students.

There was a moderate amount of country played, and many students sang along with the lyrics. Others did not know the lyrics, but had a great time dancing anyway.

The style of dress was in sync with the normal Newport outfit: cowboy hat, hickory or flannel shirt, cowboy boots, and straight-legged Levis.

There were a few people dressed differently, but most that attended just wore what they wear to school.

The price was six dollars for couples and four dollars if one chose to come alone.

Dancing was sporadic, but a few staff members commented that it should have been called the Sadie Hawkins Stand in place of the Sadie Hawkins Dance.

When asked about the dance, Susy Dempster said it was fun, but the music was pretty much all the same and it didn't look like it was very organized.

Emily Stater commented "The decorations were a nice effort, but I didn't like the music because I really hate country music. It makes me nauseous. The music was hard to dance to, so I didn't."

One of the more enthusiastic comments came from Andrea Nelson-Retasket. She said,

"The music was rad, and it was the best dance of my highschool career!"
